Hi Samy and Chummy,
Lesson1:
My MBBS days .My father used to send me Rs 500 every month.300-350 Mess bill and 150 for whole month. We used to enjoy tea and Ayyangar bakery puffs in the evening!..But after15th money shortage used to bite me..my strategy was...
Used to go alone for tea and have Chota tea(1/2).No Puff after 15th and somedays used to be very hungry..Some time used to join friends who would pay for me! One Saturday I was very hungry and had no cash..friends were not around..neither could I have asked Dad because it took 7 to 8 days for bank transfer that time..I started looking for every single coin available in every corner of my room and shirt pockets. Could gather about 5 rupees and at last I could have tea that day...Still remember..how I felt..started respecting every single coin from that day!..
Was travelling from Delhi to Bangalore after some ECFMG related work.As it was busy season I had to take a ticket from a agent which was not in my name. The TT checked and fined me..Rs 1000..I had only Rs 300 in my pocket...I was in trouble. they could have got me out of train or arrested me for not paying fine..one fellow passenger just gave Rs 700 for me..He didi not know my name or address but he was from Bangalore...Realised what could happen if in critical times if you don't have even 300 rupees..
Samy, you were born in 1999 at KSA and Chummy was 2 months old(embryo inside AMMA!) .We returned to India in 2001..Thought we have saved enough for life and can have relaxed life after working hard for 3 years in KSA..Amma did not join for work as Samy was 1 year old and we didnt have a job either...Did not know where to join for work,,To start practice or join any Institute...so difficult to get a job..it took about 4 to 5 months..Meantime I had to take bank deposits one by one and many saving were getting spent...t
chummydashy2001@gmail.comhat was a difficult time..of course things changed once I joined Manipal in 2003..Lesson was, never take things for granted..I have this much salary,I have savings,I am a doctor..if you don't keep earning even 20 lakh money is not enough !..
Suddenly if health goes down or you loose a job or you resign...things change overnight!!..Pressure comes from all side..
So girls...if you can save Rs 5 by walking instead of city bus please do.You earned Rs 10..If you can save Rs 25 by taking city bus instead of auto ..please do.You earned Rs 50!.But in emergency or if no other option don't hesitate spend as much needed..You don't have to suffer or inconvenience your self.Be smart.Plan.Execute.
Saving habit is a very critical Life skill.Today Rs 1,tomorrow Rs 10...one day Rs 1,00,000..It is just adding zeros..But,money is not everything. But don't spend just because your friend or classmates do or for the feeling what will others say.Be confident of yourself. No one can make you feel inferior as you are trying to be self reliant. If some one does then it is simply not worth listening to such fools.Mind you...when you are in trouble it is yours alone...Each one has their own..Very few will have time for you..
Hope the point is clear...Develop Life skill 1:Save most of what you earn but spend what is essential..
With love
Anna
